  I'm digging these offbeat takes on classic rock, uh, classics, like Dub Side Of The Moon, things like that. Love the sound of this. Definitely something of a 'Heroes & Villains' approach in terms of the barbershop quartet kinda thing. Also I was thinking, at moments, Enya crossed with, uh, Bjork. Or something like that.     I picked up a Dylan reggae tribute 2-disc set the other day. While it's not DSotM, it's still pretty cool to hear stuff redone like that.

      I heard a reggae tribute, "Is It Rolling Bob." It was much better than the Dylan blues tribute or the Dylan gospel tribute or the Exile On Main Street blues tribute. Actually I think I have a copy of Is It Rolling Bob around here somewhere. That was good. When the execution is poor these things can really suck.

      The best I've heard are the first couple of Dread Zeppelin albums, Dub Side Of The Moon, Moog Cookbook Plays The Classic Rock Songbook (Troy can tell ya about that one...have you heard it?), and a ska take on Tommy that I heard last year that I think is really good. Actually since I'm not a fan of Tommy I have to say I prefer it to the original. In any case...this is well-thought-out, well-done, well-executed.

        Hmm, that ska/Tommy sounds like fun, but I'll pass on the Moog bits. I'm sure Troy would love to turn me on to it, though.

  Haven't heard about that, but she was also on Greg Dulli's last installment of The Twilight Singers, Blackberry Belle . Really nice album. And the closing song "Number Nine" (actually track 11 ) which includes the lyric containing the album title, devil - sweet talkin fly on the wall / blackberry belle of the ball / just like you told me - I'm gonna crawl , features Mark Lanegan as the main vocalist, with his deep, Johnny Cash-like baritone, and with Greg Dulli taking over on the chorus and singing background over some very nice music driven along by Petra Haden on violin, and toward the end, with her background vocals joining the others, and then all by herself crooning a bit like Clare Torry on Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky".
