Follow Ups:
and I agree: fantastic and dynamic. Not enough bass in my room so had to add a sub.Duc748, what speakers are you running?
Ordered the upgrades (minus C-core) to hardwire from Brian this week. Oh boy, this is gonna be fun!

Doug, Using Academy horns, I think personally that changing to horns is probably one of the best upgrades you can make...Never experienced total, total transparency before..horns invisible... KitONE and horns the dogs dangly bits!!

Doug, they are furnished with EX3s..I can sent a couple of pics to an email addy if you want, I am a cabinet maker so I constructed them myself to lowthers spec.
What drivers are in yours?

Mine are the Fostex 208Sigma, and they have a supertweet horn, I think it's the 90something--I will write again after checking if you'd like.Yes! I'd like to see pics; esp, since you're a cabinet maker. Bet they're nice.

Can I get a pictures and opinion about your horns guys?
I consider to build speakers to my Kit One but still cant decide which project.Regards
Here is a link to a few pics of my home made Academy Horns and Kit ONE..sorry the speakers are not finished ..when I have time I will finish them to my desired veneer..may be Yew Burl veneer.
Duc, great looking speakers, and a great job wiring your kit1. Makes mine look like the mess it is. Maybe I will clean it up when I get my tantalums and copper caps and hardwire silver boards. Should get the parts soon so I will report!Filip, you are wise to at least investigate back loaded horns. They are different than front horns in several ways. The good: project sound more naturally without peakiness and less sound of horn in vocal region, single driver to cover most of frequencies, no sense of strain. The bad: limited bass, bass that's there is light and non-impactful, rolled highs. I've compensated for the highs by going with an "augmented" design that actually has a tweeter but doesn't have the classic crossover so little degredation there. Also, added a sub in an augmented fashion so there's no crossover there, but that way I get deep bass. Still missing some strength in midbass, but the rest of the range is quite amazing.
Don't know how to post a pic of my actual speakers--anyone help here?
Here's a link in the meantime...

Doug,Visit msn.com and open your own group to post pics..thats all I did.
Your Cain and Cain look fantastic.
I find that the Academys with EX3 dont suffer from rolled off highs, but if I wanted to be critical then a sub would be added for organ music for which I dont listen to.
The bass from the Academys is loud, tight, controlled and natural. I find there is plenty of bass for my listening tastes and there is certainly a massive soundstage, itslike being there!!
I think that the extra driver the Academy uses adds the extra bass into the rear horn. The overall sound is very fast and dynamic with an overall warmth to the presentation and I dont honestly feel as if I am missing anything at all. Even the Fidelios I build first were exactly the same..perhaps the room makes a big difference.
