I've really been enjoying a humble kit1 I have on loan right now (and by humble I mean it doesn't seem to have any upgrades whatsoever) and I'm thinking of picking one up for myself very soon. What would be really helpful is if people could start listing and discussing some of the preamps they've paired the kit1 with (that is, besides the AN preamp kit). Hoping to get some replies here. Thanks!

The kit1 is an integrated amp in that it takes line level inputs via a 6SN7 input circuit and then onto the 5687 driver section.
I and many others with active preamplifiers battle with there being to much gain (to which there is no easy solution). In short, the kit1 doesn't need a preamp unless you need a phono stage.

I have been using my kit one without a preamp --- fed directly from a cd player, with no problems. My understanding is that the kit 1 has a preamp section (driver board - ?? ) ----- maybe more knowledable people will reply about this .....

Hahahaha -- why would you match it with anything other than Audio Note? Really why downgrade to something else! :)
