I bought a pair, thinking one at least would be good, and installed OS (read used) RCA Radiotron 5U4's in the Kit 1 and hadn't heard much difference. Then removed it and re-installed the EH that came with.
I just finished a review of a pair of mono-blocks that greatly benefitted from a similar substitution.
So now, with a much higher end CD player in for review, and newly sound-treated listening room, I decided to put back the RCA rectifier.
Big difference! More weight in the bass, especially.
Just an FYI. "Anybody got any change?"

My favorite is a OS (it was NOS) Tung Sol 5U4GB. And yes, there IS a difference. I've tried Sylvania OS GB, CBS and RCA 5U4G, EH and Sovtek. Each was very different in tone.

I have spectacular results in a AN Phono Kit (and AN DAC) with a Bendix 5852 (6x5 alike) and also a Mullard CV378 in my Border Patrol psu.
So rectifiers can bring serious improvement.

Did you modify the capacitors or resistors in order to use bendix 5852 ?
