  I meant the 1.2 dac. Just curious, is it possible I need new tubes in it? Could this cause the hum? I have changed the signal tube but never the regulator or whatever else there is.

    Not sure about your tubes, but a simple way to check, is to use a clip lead from one of the negitive terminats of the RCA output jacks. With the unit operating and one end of the wire attached to the minus terminal, touch every ground terminals on the boards and any other ground points, and listen. When the hum goes away, run a ground wire between those pionts, then continue.
    I did this with my unit with good success, no hum. I ran ground wires
    in a star configuration from all grounds in the DAC to the Minus terminals of the of the RCA analog outputs.

      Could this be done in a preamp as well?
      I have a hum issue in my preamp.
