So the Kit 2 is also available with a stainless chassis and chrome transformer covers. That will be one great looking amplifier.I've searched the archives on this page and I'm still confused about the amplifiers and their volume controls. Are the Kit 1 and Kit 4 amplifiers, or integrated amplifiers? If a person already has a nice preamp, can the volume control be bypassed? If so, is it just the volume control that gets bypassed, or is their other circuitry that becomes redundant and needs bypassing if you use a preamp with the various kit amps? There's a post by Thorsten that says something about bypassing the 6SN7 stage altogether when using the units as an amplifier? Did I misunderstand his meaning?

Hello,
Yes the kit1 and kit4 could be considered integrated amplifiers as they will support a line in and have a volume control. We can make suggestions on bupassing the pot if you would like to make it a pure power amplifier. There are alot of suggestions out there regarding the stages of the kit1 and what to do and what not to do with regards to bypassing - a number of people have opposing views on the subject - but your best best if you would like to convert the kit1 into a power amplifier is to send us an email at audionotekits and we will provide a mod you can use- I will post this on the web site at some point
thanks

I am glad to hear, that the KIT2 is getting more attention. I am planning very seriously building one, and I do not consider it as a cheap solution of the KIT1.
I need more power than 7 watts, as I am ont willing to replace my speakers.I am waiting to hear the news!
Thanks,
Having an ASL KT88 SE amplifier which has 15 watt pentode or 5 watt triode output, with some mods and the right input and output tubes can sound very musical/dynamic and the low level listening quality is excellent and has enough guts to drive 86db benign speaker loads in average size rooms, so I can certainly recommend any good pentode driven KT88 SE amp.The amp is mostly used in the pentode mode which is definitly more involving and dynamic in my system as opposed to the triode connection.
