You're asking a bunch of people with very esoteric opinions. The circuit ought to work fine and sound good. The project appears to have been very well thought out, an important consideration for a beginner.

thanks for the input Henry. i am studing the other circuits and trying to make up my mind. simplicity is a consideration for a newbie like me. if nothing else, working through all these circuits bit by bit helps me to build my understanding...

I know some people are going to go nuts at my earlier comment. I don't want to put anyone down, especially energetic folks like Lynn Olson and Gary Pimm that are eagerly exploring the outer limits of tube amplification and making their work available for the benefit of everyone else. I do want to point out that any endeavor like that is going to develop a certain amount of faddish momentum. Again, not to put anyone down, but your basic 1950's circuits, built with modern components and optimized with careful measurements are not "crap" by any stretch of the imagination. Perhaps not the final word in resolution, certainly not fashionable among the transformer-coupled SET crowd, but definitely a very serviceable and decent choice for a first project. If you never build a "mere mortal" amplifier, you will never have a baseline for comparison as you prepare to sink thousands of dollars into the exotic project that replaces it.Maybe you can find a VTL dealer where you live. The circuit you proposed is similar to what's in a VTL, and listening to one of those would give you at least a ballpark idea of what this class of amplifier is capable of.
Sometimes you can get so caught up being an audiophile that you lose sight of basics. IMHO.
and you have a home environment where breadboarding is feasible..build it. Will be very educational. The output tubes and transformers can obviously be re-used. And the difference in sound is not as major...as you might think. (Although reading AA posts one often get's the idea that it is a night and day type of difference)
It's something I built. Similar breed of technology, but with a nicer driver, IMHO, and a tube rectified, choke-input power supply. A pretty bulletproof design and not very fiddly to get working right. A classic design.-Henry
