Return to K&K Audio / Lundahl Transformers
I am planning to run 1 pair of 6550 in triode mode fix biased. Is the 1663/pp strong enough to handle that. or should I go for 1623/pp ?Thanks.
Follow Ups:
Alan,The LL1663 will do 40w push-pull comfortably and handle up to 160mA of primary current per tube, so I think that its more than adequate for your application. You might approach the power limitation if you were operating the tube at 580vDC B+ in triode, but I don't recommend that operating point with modern KT88s!

Thanks.
Alan,I haven't yet had a chance to compare them directly in the same amp. I have used them both and liked the sound of both resulting amps, but that doesn't help you decide which to use.
In theory the smaller transformer should have greater high frequency bandwidth, as long as its power ratings aren't exceeded.
