Just starting a new post based on my last previous post on here. What would I need to get going with recording onto a computer? I'm looking for components at least as good as a Alesis Masterlink in terms of quality. I would like to burn DVD-A discs if possible. Or at least archive on a playable DVD-R disc. I could build a computer specifically for this use. Any recommended parts and boards? What about software to run it? It would need to have either balanced inputs or XLR mike inputs that also have phantom power. It needs to be 24 bit and at least 96fs. Does the hard drive have to be SCSI or can a normal SATA drive work? A good drive I've seen that is fast is the Western Digital Raptor which comes in 74 and 150 gig sizes and spins at 10,000 rpm using SATA. Im trying to keep costs down somewhat which is why I was considering the Alesis Masterlink- possibly used.Or should I skip all this and use a dedicate hard disc recorder? It would still need to be dumped to a computer afterwards regardless. Again how does one burn DVD-A discs on a DVD-R drive?
