Re: Computer Sound recording

Good decision on the FirePod. It also comes with a limited edition of Cubase.

You'll still want a good sound card. I use M-Audio Audiophile 192 cards. Great sound, easy driver install, good support, not $500.

For basic stereo recording (two mics, two tracks) and subsequent processing, you'll like SoundForge. It's more straightforward than Cubase - three or four mouse clicks, and you're recording at your chosen rate. I'm still using version 6, and haven't explored everything yet!

As far as the PC is concerned, 512 MB memory is adequate for most scenarios, and a 1 GHz or faster processor will do the job. I'm using 1 GB memory and a 1.6 GHz Pentium 4, and I have NO problem recording a 30 minute stereo take. (I probably could record a lot longer, but I prefer to save the tracks to disk fairly often - power glitches can be a bitch!)

You're on your way to an exciting new world!
