I have to hand it to Cics, his cPlay player does sound damn good!

At first I thought it sounded a bit thin and bass shy, but after continued comparison with Winamp and JRiver, I find that its really true to the music.

I went to a funeral of a WWII veteran a few days ago. As part of the memorial service they had an honor guard and played taps. The music was coming from behind me. I thought it was being piped through PA speakers; it sounded congested, and no "ring" to the bugle. I know what live music sounds like since I go to Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall regularly. don't I? I was dead wrong. (no pun intended) I turned around and the taps were from a live musician.

Did you enable AWE (including XP setup for Lock Pages) and use SSSE3 version?, posted on August 7, 2008 at 23:58:07

Both of these improve cPlay's performance.

When I went into mmc with Vista I didn't see the objects listed in your instructions...is there a work around for Vista?

If not, then will or can I use a RAM drive instead and allocate that for cPlay?

Also I checked the SSSE3 in wiki...I didn't see my processor, but I will give it a try anyway. I have a Pent4HT processor 3.2G 800Mhz

SSSE3...., posted on August 8, 2008 at 13:09:22
I'm afraid SSSE3 will not work with my processor....to bad, I was hoping to give it a listen.

As far as AWE, is it possible to create a RAM drive just for cPlay and have it use that since the XP options are not available in Vista?

AWE is not available on Vista (except maybe the server version), posted on August 9, 2008 at 02:03:17

RAM drive is not needed as cPlay loads directly into its internal buffers. AWE makes this internal buffer processing more efficient.

I wonder if there is anything that can be done with Vista's ReadyBoost. I know that when I use it while playing programs like Winamp, Foobar or JRiver pops and clicks go away when there are spikes in processor usage.

At any rate, thank you for the explanation of AWE and thanks again for making this player available so that others can enjoy it...

I can't make an excuse for why that particular bugle sounded the way it did, but I do know that just like any given system will sound different playing the same song so will an instrument and performer. And just like audio equipment, the surrounding environment makes all the difference as well.

True to the music may mean true to what we expect music to sound like more than anything....

Are you sure it wasn't this, which is becoming increasingly common?
