I agree with Cut Throat's evaluation - definitely better than the base HiFiBerry it replaced. While it cost almost four times as much ($99 vs $26), we're not talking big change here. Had I known about this in the spring, I would have purchased this one instead. Here are a few listening notes: Definitely better articulation throughout the range with more evident harmonic "tails". At first I thought bass end was a touch light, but it seems that the D1 simply has better control. First octave bass on the "Cornfield Chase" track from the Interstallar soundtrack is definitely there. I did have to update pCp to version 3.21 for D1 driver support. Since I connect via the internal WiFi for the detached garage, I am unable to use the "audio version". I had also updated the DC cords for both the Pi and uRendu with Ghent Audio starquad using Oyaide connectors. Used same case by clearing area for BNC and used standoffs provided. While I can no longer say this is merely a $100 player - actually my original configuration was more like $120 including case, power supply, power plug adapter and shipping, I am amazed what $225 can do with the current configuration. Perhaps next week, I'll try it upstairs using the LPS-1 and compare vs the uRendu in the main system. I have extra SD cards, so I guess I should burn a 3.21 audio version for that event given I use ethernet there. Since the voltages are different, I plan to do extended listening with one then switch to the other and not try to do quick changes. ![]() |
