I was trying to remember the sequence in which Maggie's "entry-level" models came out. Obviously, the LRS+ is the latest, preceded by the LRS. But how about the others?

Did the MMG come out before the SMG/SMGa or vice-versa? Were there any others? Anyone care to fill me in on the history? THANKS.

Bought them new from Audio Consultants in Evanston, IL. I remember them being a lot less than $900.

I remember when brand spankin' new "MMG's" where only $350

Seeing that list always reminds me of Mart, I wonder if his brother still visits here and if so offer some insight on him.

I was working at a shipping and receiving warehouse after high school to make money for those speakers. $900 would have been way out of my budget.

It'd be nice to know how Mart is for sure... IIRC Dennis was his brother's name?

His brother is Dan, IIRC.

Mart hasn't posted for many years now and he was in the nursing home back then.
The last email exchange I had with him was ten years ago.

Dave.

Hearing tri-amped TIIIs in '74 as a teen was the first of several recalibrations of just how realistic an audio system could sound.

Budget and space, however, led me to buying a pair of MG-IIs driven by a modified Audire amplifier a year later. Nearly fifty years later, enjoy a pair of MC1s surrounds in the HT. :)

Last time I emailed him I didn't get a reply. Hope he's OK, good guy. Dan... maybe that's it, yeah.

I used to work down the street from AC on Davis Street in Evanston and would periodically spend my lunch hour there drooling over the toys.

I bought a new pair of SMGa's in 1985 from Audition in Birmingham (AL) in 1986.

$450 was the list price then.

There was a good square pizza by the slice place nearby, but I don't remember the name.

There was a family that owned a few different restaurants @ Davis Street (BBQ Shack, Davis Street Fish Market, Irish Pub and a Gentleman's Steakhouse). All excelled at what they did and was in walking distance from the office and AC. Never had a disappointing meal from any of them.

Actually, that area had a lot of good restaurants for lunches including Asian, Middle Eastern, Italian, and deli sandwiches. Plenty of selection.

The Fish Market was probably my favorite, but it had plenty of competition.

Where do the MG-1 enter into this swamp?
Earliest were pre-1980 and I bought a pair 'used' in mid-80s some time.....and sold my RSL 3600 studio monitors the Next Day.....for 1/2 what I paid for the Maggies...

I kept the Maggies for over 20 years....And thru a rebuild cycle in White Bear Lake.....

MUG hasn't been updated for some time, so I've started a list on my site. I'm hoping to have it done in the next week or so.

Per GL's link, it was 1976.

Around 1978 I bought a used pair of Maggies. Recently I tried to remember if MG-1 or 2. But based on their respective years of introduction and size I think they must have been MG-2s.

That was a necessary downsize for me but those driven by a Sansui AU-717 (bought from a local price-matching discount house) was an amazingly well matched and musical system. And BTW, anyone notice what some of those older Sansui are selling for these days?

Let me know what you think.
I know it's not super clean (yet), text could be larger... but the majority of models are there.
If you see any errors please do let me know. It'll be refined over time.

I didn't realize the MG II came out before the MG I.

I'll check it out... if you see anywhere that shows otherwise please let me know. A lot of the info I gathered from MUG, but it's only loaded with older models.

There's a MG I brochure on MUG that states "The MG I is a smaller version of the MG II".

Regards,

Steve
