Demoed at the Florida Audio Show. Link from 2/19, one week ago. Said to be Harry Weisfeld's new reference. Bruce Thigpen discusses the speaker on this link. The speaker uses neodymium magnets and an array of OB woofers. Includes amps and DSP and a pre... $15K for the full system! "If I were a rich man...."

Very cool! Looks like it has DSP room EQ and XO, built-in Class D amplification, and a column of sealed woofers running cardioid (8 forward facing, 2 back).

The LFT drivers look identical in form-factor to the current LFT-VIII mide and tweeter drivers. I wonder if there might be a neo-upgrade coming to that model soon?

Not interested in the new woofer setup that requires DSP in the signal path for both the woofer and mid-high panels, but Neo panels could be a thing, though likely requiring woofer upgrades or at least bi-amping due to the neo-driver's higher efficiency.

Anyone got any intel?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Eminent drivers already use neodynium.

Starting with the 8B the tweeters are (also the best thing you can do for an 8A).

ET used ceramic magnets in their LFT line from the LFT-III, LFT-IV, LFT-VI, and through the LFT-VIII.

Check the downloadable product manuals, for example the LFT-VIII manual I have (may not be the latest) details the tech info of the drivers on page 25 including "Magnet Type Ceramic 8".

Same on page 19 of the LFT-VI manual and on the webpage for that model still available on the ET website.

I believe they did some experiments with neo magnet drivers and suspect some of their smaller models used them, though I have no info on them. Typically you would see much higher efficiency with neo magnets than the low 80s db 1 watt/1 meter of the LFT-III/IV/VI/VIII. This was true in their larger released speakers until they came out with the non-dipole neo-tweeter for the LFT-VIII in 2015. See here:

OTOH, the Monsoon/Sonigistix panels using the Bruce Thigpen's LFT technology DID use neo magnets. When they were modified and used by VMPS, the overall speaker efficiencies were in the low-to-mid 90s as I remember.

Curious... can you say more about your experience upgrading the tweeters?

Many thx!

Learned something else new today!

Ordered the appropriate Michael Buble CD.

I already have the David Benoit recording ripped to my file server. It's not a fav, I like some of his earlier recordings MUCH better, but I hadn't realized how good it is as a demo recording.

Again, many thanks!
