I have an RIAA preamp Stereo with LL1660 at the output. Both (left and right channel)secondary windings are floating.

My question is how can I make a mono signal from this:

Option A: Connect both grounds of the LL1660 output, put a 5K resistor in both signal lines and combine these resistors to a mono signal.

OR

Option B: I keep the secondary's of both LL1660 floating and connect them in series.

What would be the best option?

I am just starting with transformers, really like the sound and the less complexity with ground issues, and less capacitors in the signal path.

Thanks

Robbert

This is how I did it. Works fine on multiple different phono-stages including the K&K.

Thanks WntrMute2, Yes I have used your schematic often.
Currently I am making a MONO signal from my RIAA pre pre using the LL1660 outputs in series.
I am not sure but I believe especially when left and right is very different in sound level it sounds more homogeneous.
It can also be that my mind is playing tricks with my ears or the other way around. :-)

For my DAC out put I am currently thinking of putting in each signal path an LL1690 and strap the outputs also in series to make a mono signal.

Kevin is helping me out getting some detailed info from Sweden.

All happy listening.
