Clayton,

I am from Australia, I heard many good reviews/responses about your speakers from those who have heard them,model:CS2. I would like to understand the kind of features that come with these speakers. Features I mean the number of settings you can choose with the DCX2496 that is supplied with the speakers. My queries are:

1. what are the equalization settings for the bass?

2. Is there provision for room equalization(I understand DCX has limited
capabilities?

3. Is the DCX2496 a std. off the shelf model or modified by you?

4. Any other features which may like to elaborate.

A response is welcome. Thanks.

Welcome from down under!

We currently ship the DCX2496 with 5 presets loaded. They allow the user to choose the best location of the speaker in the room and then load the related preset in order to optimize the performance of the speaker in the room.

Dipole speakers produce less bass as they are placed closer to the wall behind them due to cancelation effects. Therefore the 3-6 file (3ft from wall, listener 6ft from speaker) has different level of bass equalization than say the 6-10 file in order to produce the same frequency balance. In this way we can produce an flat, even tonal balance regardless of speaker placement. This does not, however, deal with room modes and is not a room correction substitute. The idea is that a speaker with dipole bass excites room modes 2/3rds less than box speakers and is in less need of a room correction processor. That said, a premium unit such as the DEQX will produce better sound than the DCX, but at a very dramatic price difference.

Our approach also allows the setup to be plug and play without all the technical work involved in setting up a DEQX. We have found this approach to be very effective and repeatable in the field. Overall, this preset system is one of a number of features allowing extemely high levels of performance and a sane price point.

The DCX we include is a stock unit. There are many companies that provide upgrades for this unit and we will try to evaluate as many of these units as we can and post our response.

Please contact Peter Hardie at Reference Audio Systems in Auckland for CS2 product avalibility and delivery information.

Thank you,
Clayton Shaw

Thanks for your answer, the design of CS2 is clever but not ideal/perfect at the same time the price is affordable.

I noted there is a distributor in NZ. I wish you every success in selling this model worldwide.

Your CS1 model is based on 3-way OB and costs much more than CS2, I believe, keep us updated, ie, supply us with more details at your website when it becomes available commercially.

Cheers...

The DCX comes preconfigured with CS2 profile presets. There are 5 such profiles which relate to achieving consistent tonal balance at different speaker-to-wall placement locations. The minimum distance from the wall is 3ft (Preset No. 1). There are preset files loaded for 3,4,5,6 and 7ft.

There is no provision for automatic room correction in the DCX. The combination of open-baffle bass loading and distance configuration files greatly reduces the need for a room correction device.

The DCX we supply is the stock unit. Due to the impact the CS2 is having on the market, numerous companies are in the process of developing upgraded DCXs. We will be evaluating these products as they become available.
