I was wondering if I should just buy a cheap USBTT now (broke as a joke) or wait till I move and scour the record shoppes in the city I will be moving to at the end of the month.
Theres a lot of record stores in Loiusville ky so....
I will even be happy with an older Portable solid state TT. or a mini-console...
I always wanted one that had the lid and the stereo speakers that faced forward I'm thinking something similar to an orthaphonic...
Follow Ups:
On a whim, from a ratty thrift store I happened to walk into (looking for any used LPs) I came across a HH Scott turntable, complete, Model #PS-78. Priced at $8.95, I thought something had to be wrong with it at that "take it" price.
I walked around the store for 45 minutes acting like my wife this time...'I'll buy it ... I don't need it ...I want it ... I don't need it...Get it, it's less than $10 for crying out loud...! ... I don't want to waste the money, even if it's not that much...'
I ended up buying it. Sat in the back of my wife's large walk in bedroom closet for nearly two months, slowly collecting dust.
On a second whim, one rainy, lazy, mid March Saturday afternoon, I pulled that old, but appealing Scott turntable out, and cleaned her up.
Just "happened" to have had a nearly new SHURE cartridge, Model #M97XE. It fit on the tonearm, beautifully.
Hooked everything up, plugged it in (I STILL hadn't even tried to see if this turntable even would turn on, let alone work?!)
Saw the orange / red "power" light come on. Put on a pristine copy of the first Boston album, 1976, on the bright orange EPIC label...
Slowly the opening cut, "More Than A Feeling" played, above average volume, and this cheap Scott turntable sounded as good, or better than a Thorens or Pro-ject turntable, costing $500 or more. Tom Scholz's guitar was crystal clear, with deep, dimensional depth. I was quite pleased at what I was hearing, forgetting for the moment this was a 'average' turntable! Point being, those deals and those turntables are out there, waiting. I don't use this Scott turntable on a daily basis, but it proved it's worth to me. I have it safely and gently boxed up and packed, ready to serve if anything happens to my primary and daily use rig.

Also available in auto spell-check and google. You're welcome.
I'd wait until you move.
I've got my LP-12 copy-table in storage (along with 1400+ records, blah!), and I hope it (and they) didn't get busted in the three day road-trip out here ("here" being Halifax.). Once I have a place, then I'll probably be setting up the rig again...

I think I may be able to get a fully gone over Portable TT/record changer for about $20.00 from a guy on youtube.....
there are options. the music hall usb tt is $250, not bad. the pro-ject is $400, not bad either but better for more money.
for illustrative purposes, i have included a link to needle doctor. there may be better sources.
