Has anyone heard these new German Elrog ER845 tubes yet? Are they direct drop-in replacements for 845B tubes? They're certainly different looking, but it's sonic quality first as always! So if they are quite a bit of an sonic improvement over the Psvane 845T tubes that are supposedly already an improvement over the Shuguang 845B tubes I'm using in my present amp, I'm really interested and would like to know what they cost and where I can get a quad! Not listening to anything at the moment.

Hi Tom,
I use four Elrog ER 845 in my old Mastersound 845 Reference integrated amplifier. Unfortunatelly, I hear no appreciable differences in sound to the TJ Full Music 845 Tubes. As pre-amp tube I use the TJ Full Music 12AU7, as driver tube the NOS Raytheon K5687. Do you have a suggestion for the pre and driver stage? My friend (the owner of Wall Audio) will upgrade my driver board to the 6SN7, next month.
Thank you,
Jan
I have been in direct contact with the manufacturer over the last 7 months, and yes, they are essentially designed to conform to the RCA 845 specification. Unfortunately due to some issues maintaining specification consistency of the ER845 they have elected to postpone delivery.
The minimum price in Germany is projected to be €600 per piece, so consider a quad figuring somewhere around $2700 - 3300 USD subject to applicable taxes, currency exchange, insurance & shipping rates.
Just as soon as they become available I'll be sure to do a comparison between them & the 8 other varieties of 845s I have in stock.
Coolhand,
I'll be looking forward to you view on the ER845's sonics.

Thanks, I hadn't seen or heard about these yet. I have to say their shape is among the ugliest 845 I have seen, though. (not that visuals really matter but still, what was wrong with the original shape? ugh.)
Will have to check into these,
thanks

You're welcome Ed! I thought you'd get a kick out of these. Like you I'm not to keen on their shape though. They actually look like much like a giant version of the Mu 6900 tubes I'd be using to drive them in my amp! If you do get a pair of the Elrog ER845 tubes, please let me know what you think about their sonics, ok?

Hello Tom, the link did not work for me but I am really interested in these tubes. A web search provides 6moons reviews and the like. I cannot seem to find any English web information and my German ain't so hot. LOL Will
Double,
Sorry the link didn't work. I actually "discovered" the info about these Elrog ER845 via the same sources you did. Oh yeah, my German sucks beyond the words volkswagon, kindergarten and nein.

Audio math is often NOT linear. I and several local friends PREFERRED the Shuguang 845Bs to the Psvane 845-Ts and that was using a pair of Shuguang S845 MK monoblock amplifiers, so either was ideal there.
You may prefer them to the 845Bs, but just because some like them over the 845T does not mean much.
Hi Gopher,
Thanks for your response. I'm using a quad of Shuguang 845B tubes in my Mastersound Reference 845, integrated, SET amp shown above. I fully realize EVERYTHING is system dependant, that's why I said the in the OP; " the Psvane 845T tubes that are supposedly already an improvement over the Shuguang 845B tubes " I don't know that I'd consider the Psvane 845T to be a sonic upgrade until I personally heard them in my own room, in my amp, on my own system.
That said, there are some people ---{ Ed Sawyer being one of them }--- here and elsewhere who's opinions hold a lot of weight with me concerning 845 tubes. If one of them said these new Elrog ER845 tubes are amongst the best sounding 845 tubes made, I'd most likely purchase a quad, if I could afford them, based on their opinions alone.
In any event I do appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post of this topic. Thank you, every constructive comment helps me to form an opinion.
Not listening to my system at the moment...
