Hi All,
I've got a Squeezebox Touch, and I think the switching DC power supply is imparting some digital noise (soft "ticking" sound in the background) to my audio chain. I hear it when the Touch is hooked up to my Ming Da EL84 amplifier, but not when it is hooked up to my Sonic Impact Class T amplifier. When I unplug the Touch, the noise goes away. So I'm thinking it might be good to get a quiet, linear PS. I know of 3 so far, one by Channel Islands Audio ($260), one by Welborne Labs ($220), and something by Boulder (a modification of an existing linear supply).
Does anybody have experience with these? Any thoughts on which would be best? Thanks very much for informed opinions.
Best, Peter

inside the SB there are switching psu's again.
To infinity and beyond!!!
I have some media players
All came with little 12V/2A SMPS
I think that basically any good quality "linear" power supply would be better
The best have also some form of isolation from the mains
I am using now with satisfaction one from a german brand, Elektro Automatik 12V/5A with a <5mV ripple, where a normal SMPS has more than 100 mV of ripple
But also think of the isolation effect from mains
High quality linear PS have often EI trasformer, a goof thing in my point of view
I am attaching an example
By the way they need a little of DIY to connect a plug

Hi there.
I went for a Super-Teddy-Reg .
Teddy Pardo is offering an off-the-shelf supply or a DIY module.
I went for a DIY module+12VSLA.
You might want to have a look at below linked modification proposals first.
Cheers

soundcheck's audio@vise - Squeezebox Touch Modifications
on my SB Duet. This is not a company I will ever deal with again. The PS works just fine, but they operate very borderline legal. They have switched locations, state to state several times. They did not acknowledge my order or communicate with me until I filed a report with the FBI.
I'd deal with bolder if I had it to do over again.
I just purchased a Wellborne power supply for my Squeezebox Touch. They communicated and shipped quickly. The power supply makes a noticable improvement in sound quality.
They also double charged my credit card. Even after I emailed and left a telephone message with them about this there was no response from Wellborne. I finally had to dispute the second charge with my credit card company to have it removed from my account.
Apparently this is Standard Operating Procedure for them.
Wellborne used to live in my neigborhood.... about 3 miles away. His "office address" was the local UPS store. He moved out of state a few years ago. I have heard nothing but horror stories from most folks who deal with this company. He may have run a legit operation several years ago but when times got tough, he got flakey.
