I did not seek out this forum; I discovered it because of a thread in the Music forum I had posted on got moved here. The thread was started by some idiot who was ranking on French people because of France's opposition to the proposed US invasion of Iraq. I�m half French so I stepped up to defend the French. That was around 2003.

Before this forum I actually had had very little exposure to right wing loons. I had always assumed that these folks where too embarrassed by their ignorance to come out of hiding. So to find all these loons in one place, proudly proclaiming their ignorance of any and everything, well it seemed like shooting fish in a barrel. The only problem was, the fish refused to die. You shoot �em in the head and they let out a little fish fart and swim away or worse, spit in your face.

All of a sudden, an entire kingdom of right wing loons unfolded before me. The audiophile world seemed to attract them like flies to shit. Why? I still don�t know. Perhaps high end audio equipment is some sort of juvenile status symbol none has been able to shake.

Right wing loons seemed to pop up from all sorts of sectors that I would never have suspected, starting with one who lived in France of all places � Mon Dieu!, this guy was actually supporting Americans insulting the French and he was French! Then there was the ultra-right wing Jew � who would have known? Every Jew I had met to that date was as a-political as I or manifestly left leaning. Then ther were the people who were actually intelligent but STILL had some need to follow ultra-right wing beliefs, no matter how loony! Granted there were very few of these, but the moderator, of all people, was of this species, a Princeton Law School graduate no less. Then there was the Russian electronics engineer who seemed to think of himself as some sort of exiled royalty. WTF? Then the musicians, people who actually loved music and earned their living by playing music. I had known plenty of musicians in my time but NEVER a right wing lunatic musician, LOL! Where do they come from? Then there were the economic Darwinians, mostly people who have not read a book in the last thirty years but were pretty sure they agreed with Ayn Rand! Then religious nuts, let�s not forget them, retired white guys who�s thoughts revolved each waking hour around their need to keep women from having abortions. The arm chair warriors, who believe that anything can be accomplished with enough bombing. Then there was the guy who didn�t even exist, an imaginary perfect right wing guy, owned his own ranch, flew fighter jets in the war. Lastly there where the internet piggies, four or five right wing loons that were there merely for the pleasure of wallowing in their offenses to their perceived political opponents, reposting the most offensive nonsense they could find from right wing internet sites all day and every day.

But some good has come of all this �how weak my own arguments are; how dismissive I have been of religion; how, if you ignore government, others will run away with as much as they can grab; how easily greed can be seen as a virtue; how little any of us really know and how arbitrary most decisions and beliefs are; how our memories are surprisingly faulty, but built to fill in the blanks to create a seamless reality so that you can be comfortable in your own skin. Lastly, that the left has plenty of its own loons, but I�ll let someone else write their epitaph.

It�s been fun, very time consuming however, to think I could have become a concert pianist in the time I have spent here� or maybe not. ;-)
