I'm considering the Zu Audio upgrade.
Based on their work in developing the Presence, Zu is moving forward with offering, yet unannounced, upgrade option to existing owners.
1. same model widebander but tigher tolerance matching to tweeter
2. new tweeter and capacitor in network
thanks
Ken
Follow Ups:
I heard the upgraded Zu Druid this past weekend. The basic nature of the speaker and its many stellar attributes remain intact, while evolutionary and incremental sonic improvements are pervasive. Druid now sounds more extended in the treble range, with better harmonic completeness; some of the darkness in Druid's tonal balance is removed; bass sounds subjectively a bit deeper and with more instrument-specific character defined. Imaging is more firmly fixed and the speaker in stereo sounds subjectively more open and spatially a little more expansive. The lifting of the Druid's former darkness also makes the speaker sound a little quicker and lighter on its feet, and much of the thickness formerly noticeable in vocals has been mitigated.
I can't think of any reason you'd want to forego the upgrade.

Is the upgrade a DIY or do you have to send the speaker back to Zu? Also, what is the cost?
I don't know whether Zu will make the drivers/network upgrade available for user installation. It's straightforward, so I assume they will. I'm not sure about the discrete driver/network upgrade cost since I had some additional work done to my much older and somewhat peculiar early Druids, and didn't get an itemized breakdown of cost.

Zu Audio upgrade info.
$800 upfront cost with $200 credit issued upon return of tweeter and driver to Zu.
no warranty for any damage caused by owner putting in the new tweeter and driver. I believe the connection inside are quick connect not soldered.
Zu will do the retrofit at no labor cost. Owner pays shipping both ways. Expect 2-3 week turnaround time from Zu receipt of speakers to shipping the speakers back.

Thanks for the info. I think the upgrade would be pretty easy for an owner to do, and I'm NOT giving up my Druids for 5 weeks to have them do it! I would not survive!
