I've had these speakers about 4 yrs now, and always thought they were a tremendous value for the money. At various times I have switched out the "crossover" capacitors, and about a year ago settled on Jensen copper PIO caps bypassed with a small value V-cap. Sounded good but not as good as Wilson Sashas that I recently auditioned.
Suffice to say that I remembered Tony Landry telling me that the Dueland capacitors were an improvement. So before buying Sashas, I decided to bite the bullet, buy the Dueland caps, and see how close they would bring the Prometheus' to the Sashas.
HOLY HOLY HOLY COW. It is UNBELIEVABLE how the Dueland VSF copper capacitors changed these speakers! The clarity is amazing. Individual instruments and now just that--it's like you can listen to each of the performers individually and follow their lines easily and clearly. TRULY amazing. I've built a lot of Bottlehead and DIYHiFiSupply amps and preamps over the years, and am quite familiar with the kinds of changes different resistors and capacitors can have on the sound. This is WAY more extreme than ANYTHING I have previously encountered.
If you want to hear what these speakers can do, try the Dueland caps. They may be expensive, but they saved me $27K. At this point, I wouldn't trade straight up for the Sashas. And the Sashas are WONDERFUL speakers.

I am glad you remembered that suggestion after all this time! Do I get part of the savings? Actually, you saved even more. The Sashas would have been nice up to a point but driven by a 300b amp, not the best especially since they would have to be driven full range.
All the best,
Tony
Hi,
i second your experiences on the influence of capacitors in the soundquality! There are very few caps for speaker- applications which show an enormous amount of details and open sound in combination with warm and natural, undistorted midrange, too bad that these caps usually are found in an exclusive price- region. This was the reason for the design of the homebrewn Bastanis caps, these compete in quality with the very best caps - there are customers rating the caps highest. The Bastanis caps include in each pair of Gemini tweeters and they will also be included in each pair of the upcoming new Standard tweeters for the Mandala line of speakers. The caps have a retail- price of EUR.100,00/pair up to a value of 3,3uF but existing customers who bought the Gemini tweeters before the Bastanis caps were ready for EUR.50,00/pair.
The Bastanis caps are available 50V only, so they are for speaker- applications only. The very best coupling- caps for tubed amps (higher voltages required) still are very expensive but when the other parts of the amp are worth it the benefit for the soundquality also is worth the money.
Regards,
Robert Bastani
