Soon to take delivery of a TT-2. Now I need an arm. The Technoarm seems to be a very agressive enhancement to the Rega arm with a lot of well thought-out refinements, and has a lot of positive feedback. The AN Arm 2 is a Rega-300 with AN silver wiring. Any thoughts about which way to go?Thanks
Follow Ups:
I can only comment on the replacement counterweight and stub axle, which were an immediate improvement to the Rega 250 arm. I've tried a couple of them; Michell and OriginLive and kept the OriginLive, but it was a very close thing and some very knowledgable sources prefer the Michell. Also, if you wanted to use the AN silver Litz (a very good idea IMHO), then you could still have the ARM-2 but buy just the replacement stub/counterweight.
I notice that the Technoarm has a VTA adjuster which will add a few millimeters of metal and so lift the body of the arm; this may cause problems in that the armboard may then be too high (do you have and armboard already??). This is what happened when I added a VTA adjuster, and so I had to get a few millimeters machined off the aluminium spacers between the armboard and the subchassis. I also notice that the Technoarm is for use with the Michell armboard...(?)
Good luck!

p.s. how much is the Technoarm (hate that name!) in the US?? Looks like £400 ($750) here??

The techno arm is considerably more hear at $1100. The Arm 2 is $750. I wonderered about the mechanical compatability with the AN armboard, thanks for that input. You also make a very good point regarding the counterweight, so really the only difference then would be the arm tube modifications and the refinements to the headshell of the technoarm.Mr Cope, please weigh in, I am a week away from buying an arm and possibly a new cartridge as well.
What I've read about removal of the paint finish on the arm suggests that it is carried out to reduce damping in the arm which, is suggested can deaden the sound. I notice that the Michell arm talks about adding damping to the arm (but possibly in a more controlled fashion??). I haven't heard the arm though. Some parties suggest that this paint removal is significant under the headshell where the cartridge makes contact with the arm. I have to confess to having removed it on my Rega 250 (it's very straightforward to do and still keep a flat surface for the cartridge) and noticed nothing *I* can attribute to paint removal.
Michell aren't the only people drilling the arm either (haven't tried that :)
i recently went from an origin live modified rb250 ( internal rewire and structural mod )to an origin live silver II tone arm . now ,if i hadn't heard it for myself i would never have believed there could be so much difference in the sound . vastly improved detail , timing , bass , treble , timing , dynamics , everything in fact . no way i could go back ; the music is alive now in a way it never was before . and now i can appreciate my an kit one in a way i never realised it was capable of before

Hi RichardPleased to hear you've got an arm that really does the job for you. Just out of interest, does the OL SilverII use copper litz or silver?
It looks like your old arm was the stock R250 with the modified counterweight and OL copper litz. The AN Arm One also introduces copper litz to the R250, but also AN-A as the external rewire, but no modified counterweight (yet?).
The AN Arm Two then introduces pure silver litz and AN-V external cable, so it would interesting to see what OL do here?
Thanks,
hi andy
when i asked mark at origin live what the diference between the modified rb250 and the silver arm was he said it was in the armtube and the bearing rather than the wiring . as far as i know the wiring is the same in the fully modded rb250 and the silver . changing the wiring made a much more subtle difference in sound . check the origin live website for details .

I think I have found a decent soultion, AN Arm 2 with the techno weight. The Arm two has the silver wiring. Should have it all together late next week, will report back.I have read a number of threads regarding the rega paint removal, mostly from a camp that in my opinion likes a "ringing" or want or to add ambience. I am not criticising this. I cannot ever envision mself scraping pain off a tonearm, I would always be paranoid I did more harm than good.
