I live out in Suffolk county. I have a Dac 2.1 level B signature Kit that has been customized and updated with 12AU7 tubes. The update and customization was worked on by The Discerningear.

Do you find the 12AU7 an upgrade?
i tryed it also a few weeks then i go back to the 5687.
Where is that written up and/or the schematic?
"What did the Romans ever do for us?"
When I built and used the 12au7 circuit I got a paper with the schematic. Did not receive it electronically. I cannot fint the schematics unfortunately.
I have moved on since the 12au7 - which was in fact alot better than the 6922. The 6922 was not that great.
Sincerely
The 12AU7 is a lot better than the 6922. The Sound is warmer, fuller and more like music as the 6922 has some Hi-Fi sound.
For those of you who need herl, contact archie at : http://www.thediscerningear.com/

Yes indeed Horny. The 12AU7 board and it's setup done by Archie , Thediscriminatingear. This change is a definite upgrade in the Sound Quality.I suggest to all Dac 2.1 6922 users to switch over to the 12AU7 board. The change over proved a real challenge for me so I had Archie http://www.thediscerningear.com/ perform the work. His expert knowledge about Audio Note products ( He is a ANK Dealer) and how they work, along with his willingness to understand what I wanted worked out very well.

I swapped the 12au7 for 6463 in parallell. Much better in all aspects.
Yes the 12au7 is better than the original 6922.I think horny meant the 5687 circuit with OPTs?

Yes i meant the 5687
i thought that you change this stage for a 12AU7
i compaire this 2 stages and i like the 5687 or E182cc much more.
Hi everyone....
Let's get this topic in perspective....
The 12au7 analog line board is a very nice upgrade to the DAC 2.1 (both versions) and is not intended to replace the DAC 3.1's 5687 line board.
Each tube type has its own sonic footprint and the AN Kits respond very well to fine tuning by trying different brands of tubes, until you find the one that works for you in your system.
In general the 12au7/ECC82 tube is warmer in tonality than the 6922/ECC88 types. There are always exceptions, and I don't want to get a long tube discussion. If you would like more of the sense of "being there" and less of the "great hi-fi sound" then this is the one to have.
Feel free to contact me for more details.... and as always... enjoy the music.
