Hello everyone,
I have an offer for PQ Signature version of Kit 1.
Unfortuntaly it's a bit far away from me and I can't get to test it with my speakers which are wonderful but a bit difficult to drive in the following aspect:
they are very high efficency horns with a nice stable impedance around 8ohm, however they utilize a powered bass whose amps are fed via the main amp speaker terminals. This actually means that the speaker bass performance follows the main amp behaviour in the lowest region so many of the SETs I tried with them actually flawed but these were not too advanced designs as PQ Signature version of Kit 1 should be.
OTOH I know that Kit 1 in a basic version doesn't have a great bass.
What are the thoughts on PQ Singature in this aspect and other merits of its performance? Pros and cons, etc....
Cheers Gordan
Follow Ups:
I own a PQ kit 1 with all the possible upgrades Blackage wkz and non-polars all the way, tants/riken/mills resistors, silver etc..
My personal view is the bass region is the amp's least strength ie: good but not great. I think it has to do with compromise in design of the kit's power supply. I would love to build a separate power supply for the input and driver stage, much like the AN production Meishu, but I've never had the time to do this.
you can play with the power supply if need be. more importantly does it have the c core output tranformers. you will get a deeper and tighter bass response with these.
presumably if you're using other amps to power you're bass drivers you'll place less load on the 300b output stage. the question then is wether the (kit 1) input stage can carry the day
