You can get the SDS and the Helikon as it will show a marked improvement with the Scout. Save the rest of the $ for later. Get either the Aries 3, TNT Jr. II or even the HRX with the super platter and the JMW12.5 / 6 / 7 arm. The Scoutmaster good as it may be is still limited by the JMW9 arm.
Follow Ups:
The only limitation with the JMW9 arm is that lightweight cartridges need not apply. It is possibly a better arm, sonically, than the JMW9 Signature. The Dynavector Karat is not a great choice for the arm. Ideally, you want something that weighs over 8 grams. That being said, you don't need the extra plinth of the Scoutmaster to get the better performance. You can upgrade the platter and get the peripheral clamp. You only need to change the capacitor in the motor to help the heavier platter combo get started faster. Otherwise, get the SDS.
This is a great turntable for the money when you add in the peripheral clamp and SDS. You really have to go up to the HR-X to get a significant improvement.
hey, analogJ:
have you compared the JMW9 (in any incarnation) to the 10" or 12" versions -- or any other companies' well-regarded tonearms?
