still my favorite all-time rock LP. Luckily I had the chance to see them right after this LP came out. It remains my top concert of all time.

Follow Ups:
White Album - I have 4 copies and am not completely satisfied with any of them:
1) My original US copy purchased 2/69 at a J.C. Penney's in Hanford CA. I love the sound of this version except that it has a few ticks here and there. I played this a lot on my "toy" record player so it's amazing it isn't trashed.2) UK reissue (Apple label - vintage unknown). Plays dead quiet but the sound is just good, not great.
3) An orange label US copy I picked up for $2. Initially it was unlistenable so I used Go-Gone on it and it is very listenable. About like my original US.
4) An early 80's US reissue (on Capitol with the black & rainbow label) recommended on Hoffman forum. My least favorite. Sounds like a CD to me, very clean and clean but no soundstage.
The radio edit is the version you probably are familiar with, and it's better than the slower single edit.
$60 is pricy. Was it worth it?
It sounds amazing. I used it to demonstrate a SET (300B eight watts per channel)system last night. My visitor likes modern music (techno, industrial, etc..) and this was perfect for him.He was stunned to hear how good and loud this album sounded with only eight watts...I had it good and loud, the sound was was crystal clear with very deep bass.

His first album, fresh as the day it came out. I think he was lying about his age at the time, telling the press he was 17 when he was in his 20's. No matter, this is strong stuff...
Along with a few pints of Guinness of course!

Roun' twenty years ago, I bopped across the pond for a summer on the continent. And spied Senor Daltrey in foyst class as I passed through, on my ignominious trudge to steerage.
-----------------
XTC from 1980, I missed listening to this one at the time, but just found a good used copy.
Shankar from 1981 on ECM. First use of his custom-built 10-string double neck violin.
On an Odyssey Lp. Budget vinyl maybe, but set this at the right volume and it is very impressive. I doubt this ever made it to CD. CBS/Sony/BMG have always been bad about reissuing much of the modern classical they recorded.
DV cart - Rega table - Rega pre/power - Tannoy loudspeakers - my ears - my brain - grin :-)
Truly a great blues album. I pulled my copy out to play last week and haven't got to it yet. You've reminded me of how good it is.
Ann Arbor based band from the lated 60's, early 70's. Replaced the Mc5 as the house band of the White Panther Party.

Charlie Bird is a very pleasant musician, here he plays acoustic guitar with: Nat Adderly-cornet, Joe Byrd-electric bass, Johnny Rae-drums, Depo Indetto-percussion.This is one of my favorite albums of his, accessable and tunefull. I think Charlie Byrd is a gem who often plays other peoples music with terrific feeling - a class act IMO.

Young Gabby and Atta doing numbers like Akaka Falls, Ka'ena, and He Aloha No o Honolulu...no doubt some would recognize the melodies of some of these classic old Hawaiian "mele".

Worn out - need a replacement.
Old time favorite, one I've played probably 1000 times. When I want to hear what a new component is doing, I always trot it out. With these new Odyssey Stratos monoblocs...yee HAH!
That's a great album!
I have a Deram Jap pressing and a Janus domestic copy. Both are really good.
Worth the $30 so far.
Yes, very impressed with this release. I listen to it twice last night!
Tons more fun than it has a right to be.
I have a couple of reissues of Capitol era stuff which are lots of fun as well.
I said NT, damn it!
Sky Blue Sky from my hard drive, played using foobar 2000 through my HP notebook's sound card to a DIY Pimeta headphone amp and into my head through Shure E3c in ear monitors. It 'aint analog but I spend approximately 250+ stays a year in a hotel room so I gotta have something.
At least they got the WiFi back up in this fleabag joint.

Garcia can sure play banjo.
played the Pizza Tapes! Grisman rules! The collaboration between Grisman and Garcia was magical!

If I had more money I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LPs!
Have you heard/do you have "That's It"? Grisman and Garcia jammin' on some Miles tunes. CD only but nice stuff. Another nice one is "Dawg '90" (no Garcia) again on CD only but his CDs are always a cut above.

all of his stuff is desert island material. To really stress a CD based system...any of the Tone-poems...I like the first one the best but only a hair bit better than the rest. And although I don't play, I'd kill to have some of the instruments pictured in the CD booklets. I keep a pretty good Yamaha around for those who have fingers that aren't stuck up their noses. Mine? They're permanently stuck!
"Hello, Ry...I have a 1937 Martin 000-45 and a 1937 National Style O steeltop that I'd love to hear you play...could you come over for dinner some evening?" (I cheated and got out the Tone Poem booklets).

I seem to remember a great Grisman/Bill Monroe collaboration too. He turned me in to a string instrument player. I still have his transcription of 'Swing 39' somewhere around here.
Here's his stuff with other artists...I believe Bill Monroe was mentioned?I have a lot of Grisman LPs and a lot of his CDs...there isn't a dog in the bunch...but plenty of DAWGS!
