from the pictures on the hearth? You may wish to play with positioning your speakers as that fireplace MAY act as a bass-loading area. Not everyone needs MORE bass, but we all need CLEANER and more musical bass. The room and system look great! I want that fireplace, can you pack it up and send it to me?

Thanks for your comments re the room and system, appreciated. I know what you mean about bass loading, the fire you see is actually an electric one which we never use.....I think the flu is blocked, so if we ever changed we need to look at that !Unfortunatly due to WAF the speaker HAVE to go there, i'm currently working on getting a garage conversion ( hopefully ) so in the next year or so I can move the system in there....at he moment I can only listen at fairly low volumes due to our neighbours, we live in a semi detached.
I have a need for valves again ( I hate this hobby ! )

Mine, for example. The "spkrs left and right, fireplace center" thing must be one of the most common setups for audio dweebs like ... us.
But I've always wondered-- is there some kind of acoustical reason that this would be a bad idea..?
I know nothing about this stuff, but consider....If the "back wall" is a big thing in acoustic arrangements .... and the center of that back wall is a great big Hole with a really long Tailpipe ...(transmission line in reverse ?).... isn't it kind of a weird choice for speaker placement ?
Weird, that is, if you ignore every single other possible ergonomic, home-&-hearth, quality-of-life kinda criterion.
And c'mon, what's that stuff when you're an audio cadet ?Just wondering along......
I remember that it was a good thing as opposed to bad...more and better sort of thing. One of the guys here that knows more about rooms and their acoustic properties might chime in...I hope.
