I've got a small room and I'm looking for LP storage solutions. Right now I've got them stacked against my wall ... and I DON'T want to use milk cartons. Anyone have links or pics of reasonably priced or DIY solutions?
Follow Ups:
Also having a small room for listening, my solution was to make a simple shelving unit that straddles the subwoofer. No additional floor space required, and it looks fine. This holds about 350 LPs, the rest are in the basement...I took this photo a while back while playing with speaker placement fwiw.Jim
If you've got enough vinyl to make it worth your while, I say the only solution is to build it yourself. Luckily, shelves are one of the easiest things you can build, and if you have even a little bit of the handyman in you (like, you can use a tape measure and a circular saw), you can cosntruct exactly what you need without having to try and fit your collection into somebody else's boxes. Here's mine, FWIW. It took me about four weekends to do. Good luck.
Is this picture the Ikea Expedit?
Great rack. Looks good and it's almost as if it was made for vinyl. The cubbies are the perfect size.
The Bonde is like the Expedit, but has the dust-protection advantage (in my opinion) of having a sealed back.Plus, the Bonde has the option of adding pull-out CD/DVD drawers to store your little silver bastards.
They are cheaply made and overpriced, but at least this batch assembles a lot better than the previous one.
in catalogs! You'd have to be the CEO of Merck to afford some of them. And I don't even think they look as good as the Expedit shelves, which may be the best deal on the face of the planet.I thought there were 3 different sizes but only see 2 at their site.

If I had more money I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LPs!

Ikea Expedit comes in different colors and sizes, and is pretty reasonably priced. I'd suggest getting a size that your collection can grow into.
I too use the Expedit. I put a masonite back on mine so everything lines up nice and neat without protruding out the back (1/2-3/4 inch space to the wall) and also to try and prevent some dust from getting in.
I'm using the 5 x 5 version (five high, five wide) and its a great thing to have. Durable as all getout, and while not easy to move (just did that-YIKES!), it takes travel in the moving van VERY well...

Similar to what's in the photo below, I put in quarter-round "backstops" at the back of the shelves, so that the LP spines are neatly lined up right at the front of each shelf. You just have to be careful with the particle board, so the veneer doesn't crumble up. Pre-drill for best results.
I now have a weekend project with no S.O. hovering over me now...

If it's any incentive, it really adds to the neatness and ease of use. I wish I had a photo of mine, but you can imagine.
I get around 100 LPs per compartment. It's a little fuller now than it was when I took the photo...

At right in pic. Holds 375-400 LPs. Takes minimum of floor space. Got it at K-Mart.
