Heelo Al and Freek,
Sorry to butt in on your original post. My AT11E sounds (NOS) quite good even unexpectedly so. How does it rate against some of the other AT carts?
Follow Ups:
It was standard issue on many low cost tables. It sounded good and I liked mine for many years, but it was very basic.
it's going to hold me until I find a good upgrade path. It makes me feel good though that there is something better up the road. Mine is quite enjoyable. It doesnt do anything really bad. I guess an AT14Sa would offer a bit more of everything I have now.
I have not listened to the 11E.I started with a 13Ea, was amazed at the fidelity of it and continued up the line from there. I personally think the sweet spot in the line is the 14Sa.
The 440MLa is a good cartridge when limiting yourself to new production and easy availability. Once you step off the trail into NOS and/or used vintage cartridges you will find (as you may already have) that a lot of new cartridges can be easily bested by something pulled out of the trash from yesteryear.

It is a quad cart. Is in suitable for 2 channel?
Getting the VTA adjusted satisfactorily is incredibly important to getting the most out of radically cut styli. The ultra-sonic bandwidth of quad compatible cartridges makes for a fine performer when used in plain 'ol stereo.

So-called CD-4 quadraphonic cartridges had to use a Shibata (or similar) stylus to read ultrasonic subcarrier grooves. This design spawned later line-contact and hyper-eliptical designs, many of which are "compatible" with CD-4 playback. A shibata stylus is fine for stereo playback. Mike.
Thanks for the infoDennis
