Just returned from the Home Entertainment Show in New York. Noticed that most of the high end rooms were featuring vinyl playback gear. Of particulat note was the combination of Metronome TT with Lamm electronics into Watt Puppy 8s. This was a sweet sounding room. Also liked the MBL room. Another noteworthy room featuring vinyl was the Vandersteen-Acoustic Research-Clearaudio room set up with Audio Connections. The Vandy 5a Carbn fibers were featured. Truly trancendent in musicality and engagement. If I oly had the room size and do-re-mi for these speakers.Music Direct, Acoustic Sounds and Elusive Disc were there in force. Picked up some great vinyl reissues: Alison Krauss on MFSL, CCR's first five releases, Sara K. on direct metal master cut vinyl, The Best of Muddy Waters on Speaker Corner, several classical reissues on Speakers Corner.
Acoustic Sounds had the long delayed Classic Records Jethro Tull Aqualung on hand. Acoustic Sounds told me they just got these in yesterday, so if you pre-ordered one, they should be shipping now and arrive any day. I ordered one, but I'm wary of the quality, based on some of the recent problems I've had with Classic Records.
From the rumor mill, for those of you jonesing for the new Steely Dan Aja pressing coming from Japan, I was told to wait because another quality reissuer is going to release this classic album. Mastering by Keviin Gray at Acous Tech. That should be worth the wait. But don't tell anybody.
Lve to hear from others at the show today.
There's someone in my head and it's not me.
Follow Ups:
..when record collectors took over!Yes, we put aside Norah Jones and the 45-RPM reissues, and out came genuine 50s pressings of blues and jazz in beautiful condition, and some very esoteric things from the 60s and 70s. Records that sell for hundreds of dollars on eBay were taken out of plastic bags, clamped to 6" thick platters, and played!
Some people who came to listen to the equipment were kind of bewildered at what was going on.
Although, to be fair, his were the Japan Victor reissues from the 70's. I also saw spinning six eyes, and more than a few demonstrations with 50 year old recordings. All in all, lots of fun.
I bought three of the jazz 45 titles from Chad. Kelly Blue, Workin' and Outward Bound. I'm listening now. I liked the rooms you mentioned, along with the third Sound by Singer demo with the big VTL gear and the quiet Japanese dude playing vinyl on a tt he manufactures. All in all, it was a very good show.
