Local importer finally received his shipment of vinyl which included two albums I'd ordered. When I popped 'round to collect them, I also discovered he had a spare copy of Joni Mitchell's "Blue" on a newly re-issued 180gm - so I snatched it to replace my 40 year old copy which is knackered. Here are the first impressions...
1) "The Hawk Flies High" (Coleman Hawkins) - MoFi 180gm
Recorded in: 1957
Pressed in : 2006
Stereo/Mono: Mono
Recording : Historical
Mastering : *****
Pressing : *****
Performance: *****
Impressions: The age shines through ito recording, but performance more than makes up for it.2) "Blue" (Joni Mitchell) - Reprise 180gm
Recorded in: 1967
Pressed in : 2006
Stereo/Mono: Stereo
Recording : ****
Mastering : ****
Pressing : *****
Performance: *****
Impressions: A worthy replacement for a worn-out favourite album.2) "Holly Cole" (Holly Cole) - T&M (German) 180gm
Recorded in: 2006
Pressed in : 2007
Stereo/Mono: Stereo
Recording : *****
Mastering : *****
Pressing : *****

Impressions: One of the best pressings I've heard - Holly weaves her usual magic.
Follow Ups:
Eric Johnson's Ah Via Musicom -- been after this one for a while. Also Mahalia Jackson @ Newport '58 6-eye. Both $2.
"The Blues ain't about makin' yourself feel better; it's about makin' other people feel worse!" -- Bleedin' Gums Murphy
.., oh it's gonna be a nice weekend.
If your ears ache when you play "Blue" you should be blue 'cause it's gonna cost you money to get new gear. Damn, that LP can reveal some things about a system that is VERY bothersome...and costly! And it's a great LP musically, of course...in fact, I think I'll make my wife really happy and play Joni for her today!

If I had more money I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LPs!
