Hi Abe.
That really looks good with the original arm. Your mk1 must be even earlier than mine judging by the sn#.The BTD12S arm looks exactly right. It is gratifying to see an altogether example like yours still spinning vinyl nearly 50 odd years after it was made.

....this table is spinning right and true. Yes, now that I think about it, maybe I will leave the BTD12S alone. It sounds great btw and it has a unique sense of nostalgic sound to me when I listen to it.
HI,
I thought I would pop in and compliment you on both of your beautiful TD-124's. They are really nice.I once had a TD-124 with a SME 3009 Series 1 arm. I was using the Shure V15 Type ??. That was many years ago when the TD-124 was still in production. I was very proud of it and it was my first really first class piece of equipment. Many times I have regretted selling it. The TD-124 has always been one of my favorites. I already have two turntables in my system. If I had room, I would buy another TD124 and refurbish it. But, alas, I have no more room.
Here is just an opinon...well a question actually. Since you already have one with a SME arm (that would be my first choice too), why not maintain the classic look and retain the Thorens arm? I know it was good for its day. I haven't seen the TD-124 with the Thorens arm for a long time. Seeing yours, so bright and pretty, makes me remember how I loved the classic, integrated look.
Are parts still available for the 124? Anyway, really a very nice job.
Hello Sparky! Thanks for the nice words regarding my tables. As for the TD124 parts, its availability only exist on the mercy of Ebay(unfortunately) and if someone (an inmate)is willing to donate parts to your project. The worst case is buying two tables off Ebay just to complete one project.I think you have a very good point in keeping the BTD12S arm on the MKI. I like how it sound right now and in no hurry to put the 3009 in. I think I will go with your reasoning.
regards,
