I've got a Scoutmaster witht the outer ring clamp and was wondering what to expect from the center weight if I replace the stock screw on clamp.I'm getting it more for convenience because juggling the outer ring and unscrewing the clamp while changing records can be tricky.
Is it a sonic upgrade? Also, should it be used with or without the rubber O ring?

i actually have one that is (the planamax from france) and i love it but the sota reflex is fine too, except with a couple of my cartridges that run into the reflex. THAT'S when i break out the french model.i love the screw down clamp on the VPIs (used to have one) but the dilemma you have is real. not sure what i would do unless it was to use only the outer ring clamp.

the centre weight is certainly a lot easier to use. I have both, but no longer use the clamp and have no regrets
If you are talking about the pair of o-rings that circle both the peripheral clamp and center weight, they are merely cosmetic. Regarding sonics, some use the peripheral weight alone. You'll really need to experiment. Get the center weight with the proviso that you can return it if it doesn't meet your expectations.
