I'm showing my ignorance about TT motors here, but if I upgrade to a 300 RPM motor on my Scout, can I use the old Scout motor on my Linn LP12?I found my LP12 for a low,low price at a junk sale, it's now my bedroom table, but I'd like to get it working better. I've got an oil kit and a belt on order from a Linn dealer. I plan on replacing the caps on the Valhalla board. I'm also interested in upgrading/replacing the motor. Any thoughts? I'm not sure about going DC, it might be good to just get a new AC motor first.

Hi,In principle, you can use the 300RPM VPI motor on your Linn. The Linn motor is also a 300RPM motor, though it will run at 250RPM when driven by a 50Hz signal (such as that from your Valhalla).
However, you will need to check if the shaft has the correct diameter to mount the Linn pulley, and if the motor will fit in the space provided under the top plate.
I recently found a UK supplier of replacement synchronous motors for the Pink Triangle PT TOO – see below; this motor should also work for your LP12.
Best regards,
BK
replace your power cord first, I used a MIT Z cord 1 and it made the Valhalla sound like a Lingo.Cheap and very effective.
the Linn has a DC motor, the scout a AC motor
even if you can place the Scout/(Hurst) motor in the Linn, I don't believe it will be a approvement
Um, actually, AFAIK, all Linns have an AC motor. The Basik has either a 60 Hz motor (U.S. and Canada) or a 50 Hz motor. The Valhalla and Lingo have 50 Hz motors and the Valhalla board and Lingo box provide a 50 Hz AC signal (the Lingo also provides a 76.5 Hz signal for its 45 rpm mode).
AC synchronous motors but I wouldn't. You will need a new pulley and it may not be an improvement. The Origin Live DC motor + controller is a big improvement but with the $/₤ exchange rate hovering at 2:1 they are not a bargain any more. Consider a Hercules board available for $335 on E-Bay. Gives 33/45 control and supposedly is an improvement on the Valhalla.
The speed of your deck will not be right unless the motor's pulley is the right diameter.
