But....this is the exact same motor I used in my RCM. Works great. I think I got mine for about $15 from Goodwill (yeah, pretty expensive for Goodwill but I live in a trendy artf!*% city). The shipping on this one is pretty expensive. These come up though quite often on the 'bay.
Some kinda motor is definitely the way to go - especially if you're gonna clean a lot of records.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. I've been tracking them on the bay. Seems shipping is always high. I've been hoping for something local to pop up. But, I might have to bite the bullet and make a bid on one. I'd pay $15 at the local SA, that would beat the shipping robbery, but there never been one come up. And two weeks pounding the garage sale and church flea market ciruit has been unrewarding. How do you like using this motor. Good speed, ease of use, etc.??
Made by "Rival". I just saw them in a flyer in today's mail after reading your post last night.
I started out motorless and thought too, like others here, that I enjoyed the sense of control cranking by hand gave. It didn't take long to get old (maybe 2 months). The motor makes a huge difference. I'd probably not clean as many records if I was still doing this by hand.
There's only two things I dislike: it's a little fast - I haven't timed it or anything but it appears about 1/2 (or maybe 2/3?) the speed of my turntable. If I could I'd slow it down a bit.
Secondly, it's damn noisy. The gearing inside is partially plastic and, well, it's a cheap motor. I did end up building an MDF enclosure around the motor and stuffing this will polyfil. It sounds better, but it's still loud. As my friends say, the expensive ones are too.
