Do any of my fellow classical records fans know anything about this series? Philips is/was one great record company: their records were pressed beautifully, I rarely find a flaw in them.I happened on the World Series line in a used record store, and picked up Four Rococo Quartets of such obscure guys as Dittersdorf, Richter and Rosetti. And though it isn't Philips home line vinyl, it still sounds lively and crisp.
Follow Ups:
It's Casals playing a couple of Beethoven cello sonatas. I hadn't listened to it in years until the other day. I was quite pleasantly surprised at how good it sounded. Very little noise and very good fidelity to tone colors and ambience. Based solely on that, I wouldn't hesitate to take the plunge on others in the series.

Yes, I was surprised too. So many of those "off brands" were pressed in cheap with pops and surface noise condition. This World Series record was near to the quality of the Holland pressings.
They are OK, not as quiet as the Holland originals, I believe pressed by either Columbia or Mercury. Not as "collectible" either, which means cheaper for the music-lover. Some of Philips most expensive titles are available on this "PHS" series, like the Grumiaux Bach solo Sonatas, the Szeryng/Starker Brahms Double Concerto, and the Liszt Piano Concerti with Richter come to mind.
