This record has quite the reputation. Can anyone confirm? It was being auctioned by one of my local haunts but I couldn't bring myself to pay the premium. Did the winner get a "good deal"?
Follow Ups:
Have not listened to it, but agree that the cover looks quite cheesy. I have seen this auction before, and passed for several reasons;
- cheesy cover.
- a drumkit!!!? Certainly not 'flamenco puro' perhaps more like 'flamenco nouveau'
- the price; for $100 I've had a serious flamenco guitarist come and play at our house. No way I'm paying over 200 for an album. There is a wealth of outstanding flamenco material out there, a lot of it on cd though.
The M&K "audiophile" Lps are silly priced. I suggest that you buy the
M&K Sampler. They sell for around $30 on ebay and have the good cuts
off of the high priced M&Ks.
Can't figure out why they are so cheap, other than they are not in vogue.
I picked one up for $3.00 and and well satisfied with it.I've linked one on ebay. Probably doing the seller a huge favor, lol.

I have some of the M&K Realtime catalog including this sampler and they are hit and miss. I don't think any of them are supposed to represent music as high art but they are good demo discs. Flamenco Fever is not on the sampler but I would love to secure the record from which a gospel cut called "Dem Bones" is taken.I have been buying records from the bricks and mortar version of the seller's store since the early 80's and they consistently have reasonably priced stuff in stock that you'd never find at the thrift store. At least they did...

I haven't played Flamenco Fever or Encore in a number of years so I guess I'll get them out and make a CD-R.
the full M&K records are direct-to-disk (which they pride themselves on). i presume the samplers are not D2D as, by definition, the D2D's are recorded as a full side on-the-spot, not piece-meal.could that be why the samplers sell for less $$? (not that $30 is cheap)
BTW, there is a great flamenco Speakers Corner reissue LP available at Music Direct and other outfits by Paco Pena - I believe it is called Flamenco Puro - great music and great sound.
I nevera actually heard the record - it might be a real masterpiece - but the cover is rather cheesy. It is obvious that the people on the cover have had nothing to do with flamenco. If you want to see real flamenco characters, go to a real flamenco concert or rent the "Flamenco" film by Carlos Saura.
i don't know this record first hand but....
Flamenco with just 1 guitar and a drum set???
"The torture never stops"
I have two copies of this album. The stomping feet parts of the songs are what make this album so good, when I play those parts loud, I have a subwoofer, I feel as if I am in the studio or location when this album was cut, it is a great sounding album for both sound and music IMHO.
Ciao,
Audioquest4life
carlos montoya sounds like he is going to rip the front of the guitar off, and its great flamenco playing but something is missing.if youve ever heard live flamenco, the call and response AND the foot stomping are part and parcel of the experience. THAT is missing from the two volumes if flamenco direct.
Sheesh, I know it's good, but $235 good? That makes me want to keep my copy under lock and key.
Best regards,
if you love 'sound', it's a great record. if you like 'music', you might never play it again after that first time.
That's sorta what I figured except I've never heard it.
...sound really like actual, live, stamping feet!
