It does indeed look like more and more things are available on vinyl. Stopped by yesterday and grabbed a few things...2 of which have the free MP3 download certificates mentioned before on here. Grabbed...Los Straightjackets: Rock en Español, Vol. 1
Excellent album of Spanish language versions of classic rock 'n' roll tunes. Hard not to smile when Dizzy Miss Lizzy gets reworked into El Microscopico Bikini. This one will be great for a Cinco De Mayo celebration later this afternoon.Southern Culture on the Skids: Countrypolitan
Another cover album, this time mostly country tunes but with a couple oddball selections like T Rex's Life's A Gas. I've been kinda disappointed in these guys since the very good Dirt Track Date, but I'm digging this one.Cocorosie: The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn
I've only heard their first two albums at a friend's house in the background, but was always intrigued by what little I did hear. Folky, electronic weirdness. Alternately sparse and cluttered. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I’ll get a lot of listens out of it. (free MP3s)Dntel: Dumb Luck
It's been a while for these guys. Maybe not as cohesive as Life Is Full of Possibilities and also not quite as sedate, although still way more laid back than projects like Postal Service. Excellent electronic stuff here. (Free MP3s)And I also picked up a used copy of Lenny & The Squigtones. Any of you think Spinal Tap was Michael McKeon's first musical parody needs to get a listen of this one...even features Nigel Tufnell of guitar.
Follow Ups:
I picked up the following new vinyl on the 27th & 28th:The Pogues - Rum, Sodomy and the Lash (180g reissue)
The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God (180g reissue)
The Pogues - Streams of Whiskey (Live)
The Shins - Oh, Inverted WorldLots of new vinyl is being released - especially in the indie community (The Thermals, The Decemberists, Sleater-Kinney, Arcade Fire, etc.) - you just have to know where to look.
Buy Countrypolitan from the YepRoc website and receive a free digital download of the entire album. Not bad for a $15.99 purchase.
Re: SCOTSI am a big fan of this band and have seen them live four times. That is where they really shine. I agree they have had a couple of stinkers, and Dirt Track Date is really my favorite. But if you can get past the sketchy recording quality, Double Wide Live is pretty good. And I liked Plastic Seat Sweat too. But what's really cool is that most of their stuff is available on vinyl.
I found Southern Culture's Liquored Up And Lacquered Down at a local comix/music store Friday. The pressing quality isn't too good, but the music is great.
I had an ex-GF who was a huge Laverne And Shirley fan and I saw Christopher Guest's early Nige turn on the tube one night. He did a Nigel-like character named Sid Ghormless on the great National Lampoon's Good-bye Pop . In fact, Guest did about half the voices on that album.
I love finding new stuff on LP. Arcade Fire's Neon Bible will be available on LP 5/8, can't wait.
