Hi,
I'm trying to flatten my wraped vinyl. I try put some weight over it and didn't work.
I want to try the methode of sanwiched the vinyl between to plate off glass and put it in the oven for 12min in 120C deg. like suggested in other forum.
The question is could a normal glass like the one for aquarium will stand that heat? How thick or thin should the glass be?
Follow Ups:
Merrill's outer clamp will flatten even the worst warped LPs.
Here is a link to my turntable with my Merrill.http://www.vinylnirvana.com/ar_gallery_mer_dieter.shtml
My problem has been that our oven only goes down to about 175 (F). That is too hot. I have tried convection and came close, but the timing is super critical at that temp.
As for glass, I use 1/4", but I use mine in the attic during the hot summer days. 125-130 seems to work well for me.
Life has lots of trials and lots of music to help us through them.
Bring it to 175, then let cool down to 120?
I presume we're talking about warped vinyl.Put it in an oven at 120°C for 12 minutes sandwiched between two pieces of thick plate glass and you will indeed get a flat piece of vinyl. But I doubt if it will be a record any more.
My recipe is: Heat the oven to 40-50°C and allow to stabilise for about an hour. Place the sandwich in the oven for two hours and then switch the oven off. Wait another two hours and remove the sandwich from the oven. Wait another hour and take away the plate glass.
Thanks,
What is the thickness of the glass would you suggest?
I use 5mm glass plates. Scrupulously clean.
