In Reply to: Best sub $150 preamp? NAD-Cambride-Parasound? Opinions Please posted by jbufka2 on May 5, 2007 at 04:08:43:
Music seemed to dissapear when I plugged in the NAD. The Cambrdige 540p was better at detail, fuller sound overall.I plan on using it again while I upgrade my Bugle phono pre. I willupgrade the opoamps in the Cambrdge before putting it back in and anticiapte improving it vastly. So for less than $150 the Cambrdige (to me) is better than the NAD and can be modded at a trivial cost to be several times better.
Follow Ups:
Besides giving LO MC capability, it also features passive RIAA equalization vs the less desirable active EQ in the 540P.

i was only answering the question directly. AND since I got that 540p I still think it is AOK ... but that don't mean I wasn't considering a 640p when I thinking of moving on from it. ;-)Ultimately I got the Bugle Pro and am glad I did. But, of course, you leap frogged me with the Cornet so now I am filled with resentment and jealosy. :-)
