he said pompously...The Stabilizer features a precision balanced and resonance dampened set of polished weights which not only hold the record firmer to the platter, but also help to reduce minor warps and absorb vibration and resonances in the vinyl. This in turn causes a minute but apparently critical change in air displacement characteristics, adjusting the acoustical balance in every room by letting the sound waves travel more freely through the air, improving both lateral and horizontal dispersement. But that is not all. The increased pressure on the bearing is calculated according to the 'golden ratio'. Since the turntable stands on top of the audio chain, it lets the entire audio rack vibrate in conjunction with the planet's normal interspacial 'wobble'. The effect of that on world peace is well known and I am sure I do not have to expand on that now, do I?So apart from the increased street cred and the theoretical advantage of dispersed vibration and all that jazz, I do actually think I consistently hear a slight but audible difference. The notes are fuller, the midrange more fleshed out. But frankly all that is a positive side effect. I just wanted this cool looking classic Thorens audio gadget and was hoping it would do no harm ... :-)

me too.
priced on the Bay (been keeping a lil watch out the corner of me eye). Saw the weight many years ago at the Phile/LAX show, in the Thorens' room. Two kwestions ..... 1) Can the weight be dropped/raised without stopping the platter? (I don't remember specifically handling the weight).
And 2) Actual weight of the stabilizer in ounces or grams? (If known/stated).
...on ebay htough better than the usual 169USD. I got mine at 105 from fadfusion.com :-)A1: I do not find it difficult to drop and pick-up the weight from a turning platter. It's very grippy. The weight stands on soft pads - every single outside weight has a felt pad. You won't damage your label for example.
A2: It weighs 550gr
