...We Were Dead Before The Ship Sank on 180 gram (2 lp's). The addition of former Smith's guitarist, Johnny Marr, takes the group's music and sonics up another notch!
Follow Ups:
I would like to get that. I have a couple of their previous albums and they are great. Not sure what Johnny Marr is doing in the band thou beside playing guitar. he is like the Jimmy Page of the 90's and beyond. So good in the Smiths, just mediocre in most everything else.
To me, Johnny Marr's guitar style adds a sense of "connectivity" or "fluidness" to MM's music that was not there before. A welcome sonic addition to MM's marching-stuttering-stomping style without weighing the music down. Plus I'm 42 and a huge fan of that late 80's guitar approach used by Marr, The Edge, Stuart Addamson, The Cure, etc. I guess I'm getting old. :)
Yea, know exactly what you mean. I am the same age. There is still plenty of great music around thou.
No doubt! Some of the newer artists that I'm listening to these days:The Decembrists, Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, Incubus, Interpol, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, My Morning Jacket, etc.
I am in no way pretending to be on the cutting edge, but I know what sounds good to my ears.
Try 'The Body, The Blood, The Machine' by The Thermals (yes, it's on vinyl). You might like it.Coincidentally enough, I'm going to see The Decemberists tonight with my wife in Seattle. :-)
