I had a roommate who played it all the time in the 70s, so loud the neighbors would complain. At least they didn't have to live there. It was the musical representation of a migraine.
Follow Ups:
...are you calling all jazz "headache music" or just some stuff when it's played too loud?
...are you calling all jazz "headache music" or just some stuff when it's played too loud?At the time when I used the phrase (1974), I thought all jazz was "headache music." What I know now is that what he was playing most of the time was either "hard bop" or "avant-garde."
I don't much like avant-garde, though bop is okay. I played Miles Davis' '65-'68 Quintet box set so much I needed a second copy.
Jazz is okay, but I don't love it the way people here seem to. I'm a much bigger fan of classic rock. I post more to the Steve Hoffman forum about music than I do here.
