Just curious as if the quality of the mastering shows up in the CD version. Nice to know if the set is going to be worth the $$$.
Follow Ups:
I listened to "Waiting for the Sun" and decided against purchasing, due to the quite different mix. The new mix is good, don't get me wrong, but I'm attuned to the old standard. That's what brings back the memories...
If I'm not mistaken, the mixes have been redone a couple of times - just about every time they've been reissued. That said, I have the 'Perception' box, and find the CDs on it to be quite nice (I listen to them in the car - at home, it's the surround mixes). If you have a DVD-A setup, I recommend this as the way to go - it's not vinyl, but the redbooks are very good, and you get the hi-res surround too.
I have a CD box set from several years ago, and it is my favorite demo of a bad CD vs great vinyl. As far as re-mastering goes, the mix on the originals was very good, IMO, and not in need of improved mastering.
I got the latest CD/DVD Audio box set. The CD version on this set is the best I've heard of any version out there. I have the DCC heavy vinyl versions and they are great, but the mastering done on these CDs definitely give them a run for the money.
