Has anyone compared a GSP Era Gold V to the JLTi phono stage?
I have the Era Gold and am considering an upgrade?Would the JLTi be an upgrade to the Era Gold and how does the sound differ?
I have a cartridgeman musicmaker (moving iron) and schroder tonearm.

Many thanks to you all could I ask though
What does it sound like though. I'm into all sorts of music but I am addicted to a bit of bass, and I love a bit of reggae.I tend to find the treble is way too prominent in the mix, even with my so called laid back speakers Spendors S8e. Itcould be my room and a number of recording I have are probaly not the best, but I'm looking something with really good, deep tuneful bass, smooth mids and subtle treble. I know everyone is probably looking for this but I think a lot of people seem to be obsessed with details(macro and micro) rather than the music as a whole.Sorry to rant on but do you think the JLTi could fit the bill? I was thinking of the EAR 88PB and going the valve route, until I saw the price !!
I was one of the "beta testers" for Allen Wright's RTP-3c, and when he came to HK last year, he left me a JLTi phono stage (which is now at the local dealer for demo).
In my experience with different phono stages, I can confidently say that the JLTi is way better than anything near its price range, or even at double the price, both tube and solid state.
Compared to my RTP-3c phono stage (with the JLTi going into the line in of the 3c as compared to the native phono input), the JLTi lacks a bit of warmth, and that organic, natural feel that distinuishes the top preamps from the rest. However, it is a little bit more dynamic than the already incredibly dynamic RTP phono stage with the MAT02 cascode, and might even be better than the 3c for rock music. It is also incredibly quiet (with the add on power supply).
Bearing in mind that the RTP-3c costs $15,000, the JLTi is the bargain of the century.
have been using the jlti now for almost a year, and it's terrific. a true giant killer.
Hi Mick:I have a JLTi which I can highly recommend. However, no experience with the GSP.
You might contact Jay (dealer) who seems to have broad experience with a number of analog products.
