to use on an Audio Note TT1 with Arm 2$300 or so on the price
am looking for vibrant and dynamic excellent midrange and not too much bass
Follow Ups:
The Grado Platinum is a really nice choice, with incredible midrange performance.
I was wondering if the IQ1 would be mentioned, I think it is more like $400 is it not (price not that big of a deal)?I have a Grado Sonata high output but am considering selling it with my old table, it has nice midrange but a little bloated in the bass for me.
Maybe I will wait and try it on the new table...
I see the Ortofon gets great reviews, the AT is just too cheap (reverse psycology at work) and I am sure the Shelter would be nice as their more expensive stuff get raves.
The IQ1 retails for $389 US, and is probably the best match for your table.
they are over $500 now!
the perfect match!and if you feel the need to upgrade, you get the next stylus in the line, which costs more than the cart.. but it's a great sounding cart..
what about the grado woodies second hand on audiogon ?
i think you can fins some sonata or somethong like that in this budget.note : why dont you buy some homc ?
maybe better choice dont you think ?
nt.
I think the 540 mk.2 is better though; they can be had for about $280. AT440 is very very very nice for ~ $85, but a bit over-hyped on this site. The top end is "whiteish", upper mids bright (4-8kHz) and its a bit etched compared to the best. Bass is lacking compared to the 540 mk.2 so it may be a better match for you. But for $85 it will beat anything but the 540 mk.2!!!!
I got one recently and really like it, but all the attributes you mentioned are correct. A bit etched, a little low on the bass, but is very musical and has a unique appeal. If someone only wants to buy new and has $100 or less to spend, the 440 can't be beat! I took mine off for now to listen to my Sonata and Denon 103 again, but i'll be putting it back on later(it's probably not even broken in yet).
