Only one LP, but I have a few already. It's Janos Starker playing the Brahms Cello Sonatas on Period SPL593. Starker was about 30 when these old mono recordings were made, so he is at the height of his powers.
It is very hard to find 50s monos from budget labels in nice condition, but this one seems almost unplayed. There are no spindle marks, and only a few very faint scuffs on the playing surface. It has some noise in places, but these labels used cheap vinyl and shoddy pressing, so I am not really surprised. There are also long passages that play completely clean.
I would estimate the value of this copy at $50-70; I paid less than ten bucks.
Follow Ups:
that the Period label has some incredibly interesting music of all kinds. There are so many obscure labels that have music to die for! Another great reason to haunt flea markets...no one buys Classical music...but then ,where did it all come from?

If I had more money I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LPs!
congratulations.
Mercury plums?

Early 50s:Janos Starker/Abba Bogin, Period SPL 593 mono only
Early 60s:
Janos Starker/Gyorgy Sebok, Mercury SR90392 stereo
There is a Speaker's Corner reissue of the Merc, if you just want to order one for 30 bucks.
.
One's a three record set, SR3-9016I have a MONO of Starker's Bach Suites for Solo Cello, No. 2 in D minor/No. 5 in C minor; MG50370 that is remarkable, the sound is astounding and the performances are exquisite! It's one of the three in the reissue set...originally they were single LPs (and I think you could buy the set of three back then, too).
I also have Shumann and Lalo Concertos SR90347, mine's an RFR-1/RFR-4...I wish every Merc I'd found was SR!
Looking through the mercs, I found I have two Schumann "Rhenish" in Stereo (and one in mono), how did that happen?
Wow! Look at this site I just found...I don't ever remember coming across it...looks like it may be as useful as Ron Pendorf's site!
For those who have been lucky enough to find Merc's but thought they weren't as good as they had heard from others, drop your VTA. The cutting heads at Mercury cut very differently than most manufacturers! Drop the rear of your tonearm (or use thicker mats) and magic occurs. The problem with Mercs, other than that quirk, is that most LPs' sound suffers after hearing a Merc...it's like CD's, play records first, then CDs; play all other manufacturers first and then play Mercs.
Damn, I love that Merc sound!

The only single LP from the Bach set is SR90370/MG50370, the Second and Fifth Suites. If you wanted all six you had to buy the box.The monos are actually getting more popular. An early copy of the mono Bach box recently sold for $373, and copies have gone over $500.
I paid $3 for my mono Bach box, but you have to be quick on the draw. I also have a stereo copy, and an SR90370 (in an 'M' pressing).
The one I haven't got and can't find in stereo or mono is the Brahms single LP, SR90392/MG50392.
