Al, your input would be appreciated. I have a SS retip DL103R. I set it up on a table I just purchased...VPI Aries 2 with SME IV. When I received the Denon back I noticed it road a little lower than before. No biggy. On my new setup, with the arm level the rear of the arm is very low...on a non-flat LP it will rub the lead-in when the stylus nears the end of the record. My question is did you have similar results? You say you use slight tail down & If I did that the table would not be playable. I do have a cartridge spacer I can add I just wonder why my setup would differ so much. Thanks for any input.
Follow Ups:
It's an SME problem! I use a Lyra Lydian Beta on my Series IV, and I have a couple of slightly warped LPs which won't play one side, as the armtube hits the edge of the record at one point of the rotation, even when I use the record clamp.
My "regular" DL-103 (SS re-tipped) doensn't seem to ride any lower than the original.I have no interference problems and the cartridge body rides a few MM above the record's surface.
Is yours lower than this:

It's hard to say from the photo...looks similar but as I mentioned I did notice it was slightly lower after the retip. With a spacer all is good. As you say, these 103's, with the retip, sound great. Thanks for the info.
With the relatively low compliance of the Denon 103R, perhaps the extra weight of the spacer may be a good idea anyway.
I have a retipped DL103R and I needed a spacer to ensure the arm cleared the edge of the LP. Since you have a spacer to try you're all set. I made my own out of 1/8" walnut sheet. Works fine.On a related note - depending on the angle of the stylus you may actually be able to run the cart level or tail-up. You might try tail-up and then lower it in small increments to see where the sweet spot is for your particular retip.
Cheers,
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
