because of lead content... anyone know of this?
I would think that their are dyes that do not contain lead that they could use to color the vinyl.... or.....I hope that this is nota ploy to sell more colored records?
Follow Ups:
It's more politically correct to speak of them as "records of color"...
You could get up to 200g in a hurry with a lead record. Of course, handling it without it folding in two would be difficult, and the grooves would probably change shape with every play. Of course, the onset of brain damage would probably mask some of the rapid groove wear.
This is almost certainly total bunk. Lead stabilised PVC is allowable for use in potable water systems meeting WHO guidelines. If you can use it for drinking water you can use it in records.Removal of the lead stabilisers used in PVC is inevitable, I believe that the Europeans are ahead in this due to their ROHS legislation. The problem is apparently that until recently the best alternative was cadmium.
I think also the black LPs do not have lead content anymore. I believe lead was used as a sort of lubricant in the past.
